How Many Licks? Original Art

Lots of experiments have been conducted, but the results always vary. Apparently, the world really may never know how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop. 

I remember taking my kids to Wrigley Field for their first Cubs game. We looked forward to it for months, as we do for many of the firsts in our lives. Your first kiss. Your first apartment. Your first child.

But the last times sneak up on us. There was a last time that I rocked my youngest daughter back to sleep in the middle of the night, but I don’t remember it, because I didn’t realize it when it happened. 

The first times come with fanfare. The last times come and go without a whisper. 

How many dinners do you have left with your parents?

How many anniversaries do you have left with your spouse? 

How many more bedtime stories will you read to your children? 

How many fishing trips do you have left with your grandchildren? 

How many licks? 

We can guess, and hope for the best, but that number is probably a lot smaller than we think it is.
